The prophet Elijah asked the widow of zarephath for bread (1 Kings 17:11 – And as she was going to fetch it , he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand, but in actual sense, she didn’t have enough to satisfy her home, let alone an extra mouth (1 Kings 17:12 – And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.).
But Elijah still requested that the woman took him as priority over herself and household (1 Kings 17:13 – And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. )
Therefore a word came from the Lord through the prophet, that she will have plenty all through the drought (1 Kings 17:14 – For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.)
This was one of the big miracles of the old testament, and you can learn from it.
Elijah moved as instructed by God (who made consistent provision for him all through the famine), to the widow of Zarephath who had been instructed by God to feed Elijah.
Now all she had was little but all the same she gave up her comfort to minister to the need of Elijah and at that, since she responded by believing the word of God from Elijah and obeying, the word spoken was established and fulfilled.
Some times, you might have to give up what you have to receive a great deal!
